West hillsides of the “Svrljig mountains” are mostly limestone. South and southeast sides are covered in bushes and low trees, while the north side and the unaccessible canyons are in high trees.
Unplanned woodcutting caused denudation of the certain surfaces, which would be turned into a rock “desert” by erosion after 60-70 years. The layer of soil is very thin, and below it thick formations of limestone rocks could be found, which makes planting and growth of larger trees a lot more difficult.
Depending on the available seedlings, we realize an action of tree planting with the volunteers, especially on the clearings where it adds to the aesthetics.
